Firms looking to acquire other Practices
We are delighted to have been retained by an expanding Solicitors’ practice based in West London.
This firm are in expansion mode and are looking to acquire a number of small firms that could be absorbed into their prestigious offices close to Holland Park, just a few minutes’ walk from Shepherds Bush and the Westfield shopping complex.
The geographical area they are interested in, include firms within the boundaries of the M25. Of particular interest would be firms with a turnover of between £250K – £1M and with between 2 – 7 fee earners. My clients are looking to acquire firms handling virtually any type of legal work apart from legally aided work.
A key consideration is that the principals and/or the fee earners would be willing to work from my Clients’ West London offices in a full time or consultancy capacity for an appropriate period. My Clients do not have the specific appetite to acquire the selling firms’ premises although they will consider each opportunity on an individual basis.
My Client are prepared to consider a customised approach to each transaction and will consider payment of goodwill as well as the taking over of the selling firms’ P I. They are likewise prepared to offer the staff transferring to their offices an attractive package which could include equity, profit share, a salary or even a fee sharing arrangement.
This could prove an attractive proposition for principals of law firms who could sell their firms to my Clients, work for a couple of years in West London and then wind down towards retirement.
As a secondary consideration, they would also be interested in talking to employed or self-employed fee earners who might be looking for a new challenge and who find the thought of working for an expanding and highly professional West London firm at least worth a discussion.

This firm are in expansion mode and are looking to acquire a firm that has a family/childcare legal aid franchise.
The areas they are particularly interested in expanding into include London, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and along the M40 corridor as far north as Birmingham.
They would also be prepared to consider merging with another firm that has a family/childcare legal aid franchise, acquiring just the family department of another law firm or even setting up a joint venture arrangement with another firm provided they had a franchise.
As a secondary consideration, they would also be interested in acquiring law firms that specialise in residential conveyancing.

Expanding 7 year old 2 Partner Practice based in the Angel Islington area are looking to acquire/absorb a small number of sole practitioners and/or two partner practices. They are generally looking within the area bounded by The North Circular and South Circular Roads although would be prepared to consider firms as far north as Hendon, east as Docklands, west as Chiswick and south as Brixton. They also have a particular interest in small firms in the Richmond, Mortlake and Hampstead areas. They would consider firms handling most types of legal work [except Legally Aided] and firms with a turnover of between £100K and £350K would be the most attractive.
Expanding 3 Partner, high profile and forward thinking practice in the Thames Valley are looking to expand by the acquisition of more practices and Senior Solicitors with followings. They are particularly interested in making contact with firms with close proximity to the M4, A4, A40 and the M40 from the West London suburbs as far west as the Oxford and Reading areas. They have space in their offices close to the Slough and Windsor areas and are looking to absorb additional work and staff into their offices where they can provide the back office, infrastructure, marketing and insurance aspects. In exchange, they are willing to offer possible partnership, consultancy or a goodwill consideration to facilitate retirement. Of particular interest to them is more, company, commercial, matrimonial/children work, immigration, landlord & tenant, insolvency, litigation and intellectual property.
A relatively new Practice based close to the M11 are looking to expand and develop a branch network in the Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire areas and would even be interested in a Central London location. They are looking at acquiring small practices – Sole Practitioners as well as 2 or 3 Partner/Director firms – where the Principals are approaching retirement or feel they have a lack of critical mass to make their firm sufficiently profitable. Ideally, they would be looking for the Principals/Solicitors to stay for a period to smooth the transition. They are particularly interested in firms that handle non legal aid family/matrimonial, general private client work, crime and civil litigation.
Expanding 10 Partner Central London Practice interested in Merging or making Acquisitions. This practice are looking to expand and are interested in hearing from Principals/Partners of smaller Practices who might be looking for an exit route and who would consider an arrangement with a Central London Firm worth exploring. My Clients are already handling work in the following categories – Residential Conveyancing, Commercial Property, Civil Litigation, Family, Crime, Immigration, Estate Planning and General Commercial. They already hold franchises in Family, Crime and Immigration. They are interested in expanding their work exposure in their existing categories but would not be averse to consider moving into other areas of law where such opportunities exist. They are happy to consider merging with or the acquisition/absorption of Practices within a reasonable commute of central London. They would be prepared to listen to proposals from the Principals/Partners of firms who would find an attraction in being part of a larger organisation and who might find the offer of, say, Equity, Partnership, Employment or Consultancy a very real alternative to continuing the running their own Practices in this tough economic climate.
This is a Regional Solicitors’ Practice with a national presence and client base. My Client is interested in acquiring P I Practices, P I Files and/or P I caseloads. They will even consider taking over the P I Department and the fee earners within a Firm. In the event of acquiring an entire Practice, my Client would be willing to consider funding insurance run-off cover. They are willing, subject to negotiation and agreement, not only to pay a lump sum outright for the files and the associated WIP, but are also willing to consider an interim payment followed by a shared payment on the satisfactory conclusion of the case. All no-win no-fee P I work would be considered, including RTA, Clin. Neg. and industrial disease claims. No caseloads would be considered too small and any geographical areas in England and Wales would be of interest. This is a unique and ideal opportunity for a practice that has P I WIP on their balance sheet and would be interested in an opportunity to release immediate funds which could then be invested in other parts of their Practice.
